Facades of Nice – Architecture and Urban Tours
Discover the architecture of Nice through its facades at your own pace, with walking tours covering the city’s main districts:

the Promenade des Anglais, the Musiciens district, Cimiez, Mont Boron, the Port of Nice, and Old Nice (Vieux-Nice).

These routes offer the chance to observe a wide array of facades featuring diverse architectural styles, each reflecting the urban history of Nice. From Gothic to contemporary architecture—encompassing Classical, Neoclassical, Art Deco, Neo-Gothic, Neo-Moorish, Russo-Byzantine, and, of course, the Belle Époque—Nice boasts an exceptional architectural heritage.

The Belle Époque style, which is highly prominent in Nice, flourished following the arrival of visitors from England, Russia, the United States, and many other nations starting in the 19th century. This era left a profound mark on the city’s facades and shaped its architectural identity.

While the English may have invented tourism, it was in Nice that the practice truly expanded, establishing the city as one of Europe’s premier resort destinations.

"Facades of Nice" (Façades de Nice) offers a chronological exploration of the city’s architecture through annotated photographs:

ranging from Turin-inspired architecture—stemming from the *Consiglio d’Ornato* (urban planning council)—and historic buildings in Old Nice, to Belle Époque structures and Art Deco facades, all the way to the contemporary architecture of the Arénas district, sometimes referred to as Nice’s own "mini-La Défense."

This site was designed to help you better understand the architectural eclecticism found in the facades of Nice, district by district. The numerous photographs offer a true immersion into the city’s history, illustrating how the people of Nice adapted major architectural movements to the Mediterranean character unique to the French Riviera.

The website and application are regularly updated with new facades, gradually expanding this panorama of Niçois architecture.
